About

I am a die-hard fan of the 8- and 16-bit videogame console generations. The Game Boy and Sega Genesis, among various other gaming platforms, fostered my imagination and birthed a new appreciation for pixel art. Colorful environments, challenging gameplay, and catchy tunes are all part of warm, everlasting memories. I very much prefer the 2D aesthetic, it is the most eye-catching of videogame art styles.

That’s great, but what the hell is an MORPG? One letter short of the massively-multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) acronym? The explanation is simple and perhaps negligible.

Multiplayer online role-playing game or MORPG is a subcategory of the MMO genre, possibly niche. This type of online game is often referred to as an ORPG (online role-playing game) by the community. Unlike their older cousin, MORPGs are on a much smaller scale, supporting fewer than 500 or less players simultaneously due to the involvement of older technology. Most often employ 2D graphics instead of polygons.  Beyond these simple facets, design and gameplay is similar to MMORPGs. Indie lovers and casual gamers will feel right at home.

I’m learning everything as I go along. Blogs are new to me, but the constant desire to improve my writing is an old hat.  Zajen.com is my creative outlet and aims to provide coverage on the many games and developers who inhabit the 2D MORPG ecosystem.
